Four years ago, I started my journeying as a medical student in the Jacobs Schoolhouse of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. My medical education started with the toughest form of all. Anatomy! And my worst nightmare came truthful during my first test for the course. My laptop bombardment died in the middle of the exam. I had to stop taking the exam in order to notice a suitable charger. Rather than focusing on the answers to difficult human anatomy questions, I kept hoping and praying that my battery on this old and dying laptop would last till the finish of the exam.

Definitely not the best way to start the well-nigh challenging year at the medical school, where the amount of data that gets thrown at yous is considered equivalent to drinking from a fire hose. Now imagine doing that, with limp hands and useless legs, on a paralyzed body, stuck in a motorized wheelchair. And practice you care to know how that happened?

At the age of 21, I suffered a spinal cord injury, after being hit past a drunkard driver on my neighborhood road. Following many months of rehabilitation, I returned to the community with a eye full of hope, but before long I realized how difficult it is for a quadriplegic person to thrive in this social club, designed for and ruled by athletic individuals. But what made me still hang on to my dream of condign a doctor was the dearest and support I received from my friends, families and even strangers who believed in me.
1 such wonderful back up came from the Travis Roy Foundation, defended to improving the lives of individuals with spinal cord injuries. It was the laptop I received from the foundation that put an finish to that nightmare for expert, and immune me to take subsequent medical school exams with peace of listen. It was a keen support at that fourth dimension, equally I embarked on a journey through an already expensive bookish pursuit. The laptop has helped me during my bones science courses, especially to take exams, equally well every bit my clinical rotations in the hospitals and outpatient clinics.

And then now after four years, upon my graduation from the medical school, I want to convey my heartfelt gratitude to all the members of the foundation who work tirelessly to make the world a better place for individuals like me. And to all those swell souls who provide their unconditional support for the great cause of this foundation. You may non get to see the smile you lot put on all of our faces, only know for sure that all you do every 24-hour interval has a tremendous impact on our happiness and success!

Thank you!
Farzana

With the Travis Roy Foundation Grant that I was awarded, I was able to purchase a Royal iii mattress with an adjustable base. He is unable walk and has express employ of his easily. Later on his injury, access to our bathroom and the use of the shower was extremely difficult and frustrating for him. We took off the doors to our walk in shower, simply he still had to transfer to a bench. Balancing on this bench wasn't platonic and he couldn't plough the knobs, and so I would have to assistance him with his showers. At present, at xviii years of age, he is wanting more than independence and privacy. With the modification and roll in shower he is able to take a total shower without my assistance. He only rolls his shower chair into the shower and relaxes in private. He can also utilize the sink with ease.

The Foundation approved the purchase of a $2100 shower chair in December 2011. The chair is a God-send and makes it immensely easier to bathe Ed and go along him clean. When told of your approval of the chair, he said, "You mean I tin can at present go a shower?" Since sponge baths has been his lot for two years and more, he was elated, as was Ballad. And so thanks to your donors for opening their hearts and wallets to those who endure and are in slap-up demand. Thanks to the Board for choosing Ed as a recipient of not-enough-funds to go around for the many requests from which you must choose. Thanks to your very helpful and efficient staff which interfaces with the public. God anoint y'all all beautifully.
Hazel and Gary Bovard (friends of Ed and Ballad)

To the Trustees of the Travis Roy Foundation and staff:

As we all gather for Christmas and the New Twelvemonth with family and friends, I will exist reflecting on all that brings meaning and joy to my life. The Travis Roy Foundation has gone above and beyond by helping people get back to a better level of life.

At this fourth dimension of the yr, we have been taught that it's "better to requite then to receive". I accept always been a giver, just this is one gift that I'm very happy to receive. This simply goes to show me nearly how my life has touched then many others. It is true; I am having "A WONDERFUL LIFE" through good times and bad! Your donation shows me that I must be here to brand a divergence on my life or influence someone else'southward life. Fifty-fifty through a tragedy, you must go along your head up, because you don't known how you may touch on others.

Over again, Cheers, and I will keep you in my prayers.

It's simply possible for me to help others, because you helped me!

God Bless you, Have a Merry 10-mas & Happy New Year!
Toni Martin

I know I have expressed in previous e-mails for the graciousness of this grant and how it would allow me to pay information technology forward and hopefully as the bills shows I spent this money frugally.

I can't imagine how many applications come in each month and what an arduous task that must be for the Board of Directors to make difficult decisions on disbursements.

Sometimes in life, things happen too fast. Every twenty-four hours we face interruptions, delays, changes, and challenges; when nosotros are feeling overwhelmed, one simple concept that can get u.s. through the well-nigh stressful of times is gratitude! It'southward the gratitude that comes from the Travis Roy foundation that requite others the wherewithal and fortitude to deport on. I believe Travis and his foundation have truly epitomized the word" SELFLESSNESS"

Dan Iagatta Three

I heard about Travis Roy long before my brother Daniel Iagatta's c4 injury in 2004 and I certainly didn't know, at the time, that it would impact u.s. in a positive style.

He is 48 years old. He has been driving for 5 or 6 years now and when he received his new chair he wasn't able to practise as much and he wasn't getting around equally much. I would love to thank the Travis Roy Foundation, on behalf of myself and Dan'southward family, for retrofitting his new chair to his van in gild to gain his independence back.

As a primary plumber of 23 years, paramedic,pt firefighter , he has given and so much to the community and at present the community has given him then much in return. Thanks to this foundation he can continue to deliver meals to the homebound for "Meals on wheels", teach religious educational activity for Saint Mary'due south in Foxboro and most recently he but landed a teaching job! Thank you again for giving him back his freedom. 🙂

I recently received funding from the Travis Roy Foundation to pay for modifications to my van to go far wheelchair accessible. The van came out great! I'm happy with it. The new conversion done by HDS of GA, has a 9″ cutting in the floor, making my driving from a power chair easy, comfy, and safe.

Special thanks to the Travis Roy Foundation for understanding the issue of independence and assisting people that can then help themselves and others.
I am forwarding some pictures of the van. Investing in people with disabilities returns us to productivity. We are all in this together.

Sincerely,
Bart Brophy

Post spinal cord injury my "life" has changed. Maneuvering around habitation is always a formidable chore. My married woman constantly picks-upwardly afterwards our ii daughters (ages five & 9), but it is like shoveling during a snow storm…….minimal results. My girls fill the house with love and joy, simply continually litter the floor with books, toys, shoes. All of which make wheelchair mobility crude. Fortunately, we are now able to apply our downstairs (family room, toy room, kitchen) due to a newly constructed ramp. I can now roll around my belongings far more than efficient. This foundation provided me the ability to acheive farther independence, without their help and support this could not take happened. Thanks for all your much needed back up.

Cheers,
Eric Shairs

To the Travis Roy Foundation:

I would like to offer my sincerest thanks for the funding that you provided that allowed me to purchase an Easystand Evolv Standing Frame.

Throughout my life I take always made my wellness and physical fitness a top priority. Since my skiing injury and associated quadriplegia I have realized fifty-fifty more than so how extremely important it is to take care of my body. I regularly go to physical therapy to piece of work on my strength and conditioning, eat a healthy counterbalanced diet, and maintain an agile lifestyle. This was all great in maintaining what strength I did have in a wheelchair, only did little to challenge my body in an upright position. The but way I could practise this was with the buy of a standing frame, something that was financially far exterior my budget.

This is where your foundation was so helpful. By providing me the funding to purchase a standing frame y'all have given me the perfect piece of equipment to help challenge my body and build fitness in ways that I could have never done earlier. My rest has improved, I experience airheaded less ofttimes, and the psychological feeling of beingness tall over again is then incredible it's hard to explain.

Thank you! Thank you, for providing me with a piece of equipment that makes me healthier. And, thank you for beingness an organization that helps people challenged by this disability.

Sincerely, Michael Chasse
